DNA Testing

Y chromosome DNA testing is a definitive way to connect Littell lineages and can also provide a general place of origin for connected lines. For example, the origin of colonial Somerset County, NJ, Littells has long been debated. Y chromosome DNA testing could tell us if the surname was French, Scottish, or English.  The test very accurately plots direct paternal line DNA for many generations and only involves males.

If you are a male Littell or can persuade a male with the Littell surname to participate, please consider joining the following DNA project:

Information about the test is here, though tests from other providers are acceptable:  https://www.familytreedna.com/y-dna-compare.aspx
